Helping a Friend Through a Pregnancy Loss

Even if you haven’t experienced a pregnancy loss yourself, chances are good that you know someone who has experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth, or an early infant death. Although you want to support your friend, you may feel awkward and you may feel unsure as to what to do. Even if the pregnancy loss happened years ago, you may still feel uncertain as to whether to bring it up, or how to show support if your friend wants to talk about it.

Pregnancy and parenting expert, Ann Douglas, has written numerous books, including co-authoring the book Trying Again: A Guide to Pregnancy After Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Loss. We asked Ann to share her best advice for helping a friend through a pregnancy loss. In the video below, she offers a wealth of wisdom to those of us who want to be helpful and supportive, but don’t know what to do.

October 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Share this video and help equip others to support parents who are going through the heartbreaking experience of saying goodbye to their baby.
