Just when we thought that wearing a watch had become a thing of the past, Apple announced its SmartWatch concept. Then, vTech stepped in and created a SmartWatch specifically designed for kids. The vTech Kidizoom SmartWatch is getting great reviews as one of the top toys for the 2014 holiday season. Here’s what we think about this product:
Kidizoom Smartwatch Review
The Kidizoom Smartwatch is an actual watch (not just a watch-like device) that also includes a built in camera and video recorder, games, a timer, a stopwatch, a voice recorder, and an alarm. If you want to upload photos and download more games to the watch, you can. The design makes it easy enough for a preschooler to use, but the watch itself has enough options to make it a fun toy well into grade school. Really, it’s a spectacular product and the positive reviews are well-founded.
Set up was a breeze. The Kidizoom Smartwatch is very user-friendly and has an intuitive design that combines touch-screen functionality with several buttons. In other words, your children should be able to easily figure out how this watch works with minimal assistance.
The kids of course love it! For most little ones, even just wearing a standard watch is an exciting thing to do. Add in all of the fabulous features that this Kidizoom SmartWatch offers and they are in love! Dana’s boys especially love the camera and video recorder features (and Dana loves that it gives the camera and video function on her phone a break!).
Our only concern with this product is the fact that wearing a digital device with so many features has the potential to add a lot of screen time to your child’s day. Screen time is screen time, even if it’s educational. We recommend setting boundaries around how much time your child can spend using/wearing this watch, just like you would with any other digital device.
