November is here and it’s time for the holiday gatherings to begin. While not mandatory, many people feel that good etiquette means bringing a small thank you gift to the party for the hostess. An old fashioned concept? Perhaps. But always appreciated nonetheless. Here are our favourite hostess gift ideas for the holiday season:
Hostess Gift Ideas
1. A small tin of home-baked cookies. If you’re already making batches upon batches of Christmas cookies, why not set some aside in small tins to bring to gatherings. Just be aware of any allergies in the hosting household.
2. A $5 gift card for a specialty coffee enclosed in a thank you card. In our experience, you can never go wrong with a Starbucks gift card (or a gift card to a local cafe in your neighbourhood). This is a great choice if you don’t know the hosts very well yet.
3. A bottle of wine. Obviously in this case, you should know your hosts. If they abstain from drinking or if she’s expecting, you may want to choose something else from this list!
4. Go handmade. This suggestion works well if you’re especially crafty, not so much if you’re not (if it looks like it was made by your preschooler, it’s not appropriate). Wrap up your latest knitted creation, a handmade ornament, or something else that emerged from your creative depths.
5. Flowers. A small seasonal floral arrangement is another great go-to, and is easy to pick up at the last minute!
