5 Super Easy Halloween Costume Ideas

As mentioned before, “easy” is a relative term. The following Halloween costume ideas met our standards of easy, which means that pretty much anyone should be able to make these costumes . . . and get them done fast!

The best part about the all the Halloween costume ideas below is that they can be modified to suit any age. With that said, be mindful of the materials you are using and whether they will present a danger to your child. In other words, don’t use a plastic bag filled with balloons (with holes cut out for arms and legs) to make your baby or toddler into a bag of jelly beans.

Common sense, peeps, use common sense . . .

1. Minion -Buy a yellow hoodie, a pair of blue overalls, and a pair of silly glasses from the dollar store. Voila! You now have a minion costume.

2. Garden Gnome -Buy a floppy toque, a fake beard, a plaid shirt, jeans or overalls, and rubber boots. Add a bit of blush to your child’s cheeks and you’ll end up with a perfect little gnome.

3. Cotton Candy -Dress your child in a white shirt and pants. Cut leg holes and arm holes in a large, clear plastic bag and have your child step inside. Fill the bag with crumpled up gauzy pink or blue fabric (like tulle) and tie it up under your child’s arms (tying the bag around your child’s neck is not recommended, for obvious reasons!). Make a tall cone hat out of firm paper for your child to wear on his or her head. (You can turn your child into a bag of jelly beans by filling the bag with small colourful balloons, instead of tulle, and skipping the cone hat.)

4. Shark -With a grey hoodie, some white felt, scissors, and some glue, you can quickly have a shark costume. Check out this tutorial on the Fiskars site.

5. Spiderweb -Dress your child in a black shirt and pants, buy a bag of that stretchy spider web cotton (available at any store that sells Halloween decorations) and several dollar store spider rings. Wrap the spider web cotton loosely around your child and tangle the rings into the cotton. Done!
